The Work

The Brief

Green 4 Carpet and Upholstery Cleaning Services had been building a strong local reputation in Swindon and Wiltshire for years — but with no website to show for it. They came to me needing a full web presence from scratch: something that would earn the trust of potential customers at first glance and convert that trust into quote requests and bookings.

The Problem

They had high ratings and genuine reviews across Google, Checkatrade, and Trustindex — but no way to own or shape how they appeared online. Customers searching for carpet cleaners in Swindon would find their reviews scattered across third-party platforms, with no website to land on, no brand identity to reinforce, and nowhere to take action. They'd even purchased a domain knowing they needed one — it had just been sitting empty.

The Approach

The main design decision was to lead with trust. They already had the proof — 750+ reviews, Checkatrade approval, a 4.9/5 rating — so the site's job was to surface that proof clearly and get out of the way. I stuck closely to their existing brand colours (a deep forest green and a warm gold) to give the site a premium, established feel without drifting from what their customers already associated with them.

To convert visitors, I placed quote and enquiry forms in multiple strategic locations — in the hero, at the bottom of each service page, and on the contact page — so there was never more than a scroll between a visitor and a form. Before/after imagery of actual jobs (rugs, sofas, carpets, staircases) was built into both the homepage and the gallery to let the results do the talking.

The Build

The site covers six pages: Home, Services (index), a dedicated Carpet Cleaning service page (with the rest of the services pattern-matched), Gallery, About, and Contact. Each service page walks through the cleaning process step by step — giving customers the transparency and confidence to book without needing to pick up the phone first.

Key interactive pieces include a multi-service quote form (customers tick which services they need), an FAQ accordion, and a before/after gallery with paginated review cards — all built as React islands with partial hydration so they load only when they enter the viewport.

The Outcome

Green 4 now has an owned corner of the internet that reflects the quality of their work — a place to send potential customers, share on social media, and build on over time. The site surfaces their reviews, explains what sets them apart (truck-mounted extraction, eco-friendly solutions, no hidden costs), and makes it as frictionless as possible for visitors to request a quote. It's too early for hard numbers, but the foundation is there.

Stack Used

  • Astro 6 — static site generation with file-based routing
  • React 19 — interactive islands (quote form, FAQ accordion, gallery/reviews)
  • Tailwind CSS v4 — utility-first styling via Vite plugin
  • TypeScript — typed component props and centralised content tokens
  • Partial hydration via Astro's client:visible directive — interactive components load only when scrolled into view
  • Design tokens and all site content (services, reviews, FAQs, process steps) centralised in lib/tokens.ts
  • Custom SVG leaf pattern generated as inline data URI for section backgrounds
